Material Mind - Art Studio BFA Exhibition 2021

Thu, May 20, 2021 through Fri, Jun 11, 2021

The annual BFA exhibition presents the thesis work of students graduating from WWUs year-long BFA program. The Spring 2021 exhibition, Material Mind, explores the vast and complex relationship between the tangible and the intangible, the real and the imagined. Utilizing a range of media, including sculpture, painting, fibers, film, printmaking, and installation, the artists have chosen materials that act as conduits to memories or ideas that often feel beyond reach. By converting the ethereal into physical forms these artists distort and expose themes of isolation, identity, time, heritage, technology, corporeal realities, the natural world and human connection. Some have selected to represent personal memories by exposing the fragility of the structures, surfaces and places that surround one’s past, present and future being. In experiencing Material Mind, the agency of the displayed materials offers us a glimpse into the complexities of each artist’s mind.

Thirty-minute, no-contact viewing appointments are available to all visitors during the run of the exhibition. During the scheduled appointment a visitor must wear a mask at all times.
