About
Hafthor Yngvason has curated several exhibitions and large-scale public projects at the Reykjavik Art Museum, where he was director for 10 years. Notable projects include Yoko Ono’s Imagine Peace Tower in Viðey, Iceland.
He has served as speaker, panelist and art juror for various universities and public organizations in the United States and Europe. He has written extensively on art for US national and regional publications. Publications include: Public Art Review, A Journal of Public Art and Design, The Getty Conservation Institute Newsletter, Art New England, and others. Published books include: "The New Public Art: As Opposed to What?", "Perspectives, At the Convergence of Art and Philosophy", and "Conservation and Maintenance of Contemporary Public Art".
Before his appointment in Reykjavik, Yngvason served for 10 years as the Director of Public Art at the Cambridge Arts Council in Cambridge, MA.
He has been director of the Western Gallery since September of 2015.
