Primary Research Lab: Picnic on the Steps

Join Western Gallery for an afternoon picnic and casual discussion on Bruce Nauman's Stadium Piece. Bring your favourite basket or bagged lunch and participate in the group animation of this important, early participatory sculpture. Intended as both stadium seating for viewing the world and a sculptural, philosophical proposal which contemplates community activity, competition and perception, Nauman's work is our complex conversation starter for this afternoon in the sun.

PRIMARY RESEARCH LAB will host a series of engagement labs where we will create active platforms for encountering works of minimalism from the collections at WWU. These labs will highlight the physicality of these encounters. Through commissioned works, events, tours, listening sessions and screenings the lab series will contribute a contemporary and sensory perspective on these artists forms.
