Masters of Design: Our Work Shouldn’t Be Here

April 9 through May 17, 2013

This retrospective exhibition of Volume's work is the latest in Western Gallery’s ongoing Masters of Design series. The exhibition captures the experiential essence of Volume’s wide range of work, revealing much about our philosophy, process and personality in addition to their work. It also addresses how to display design that is meant to be touched, read, and used without completely reducing it to a collection of rarefied artifacts frozen behind glass. Volume Inc., San Francisco, was founded by Adam Brodsley and Eric Heiman, who both teach in the Design Department at California College of the Arts. Since its inception, Volume has created environments, books, web sites, promotional collateral and films for a variety of commercial and cultural clients, and this work has been exhibited, honored, and published extensively worldwide.
