An Evening of Film, Dance, and Dialogue with Aowyn Leiper
The event will include a film screening, live dance performance, and a conversation about autism and dance with WWU dance student Aowyn Leiper and WWU's Institute for Critical Disability Studies.
Film
“No Right or Wrong,” featuring WWU dance student Aowyn Leiper, is a 10-minute mini documentary — excerpted from “The Most Me: Dance, Disability and Disorders,” created by WWU faculty Joe Gosen, Pam Kuntz, and Maria McLeod. This 2026 documentary, produced with support from a SJEC grant, features three individuals engaged in dance who have been diagnosed with a neurological condition or disorder. In “No Right or Wrong,” Leiper, who is autistic, describes their relationship to dance through the lens of neurodivergence, challenging stereotypes and dispelling misconceptions.
Dance performance
projection on, lights out choreographed by Aowyn Leiper, explores structural bias through a lens of social expectation and conformity. To understand exclusion requires a challenging of previous, unspoken standards.
In conversation
Aowyn and Disability Studies faculty will engage in a conversation with the audience about dancing with autism.
