Artist Statement
"El Charro, El Lobo, y El Hombre" represents my personified anxieties if navigating the in between — between expectations, the idea of not being “enough,” and the need for belonging. Using the folklore of El Charro Negro, the Mexican Wolf, and myself, my work utilizes product design and advertising through the use of digital illustration to explore the weight of machismo, the invisibility of racial imposter syndrome, and finding acceptance with who I am. While displaying my identity as a Latino, a son of an immigrant, and a half-Mexican, my work encourages empathy for those who struggle inside, bringing confidence and hope within ourselves and the community we share.
